THE EVENTS

Through a variety of 5 partner-based, diverse and often challenging workouts, pairs will be tested on a selection of endurance, agility, strength and power skills. All tests are executed as a pair and are judged by trained evaluators. All participants MUST register alongside a partner, and all awards are earned as a duo. Once results are tallied by our score-keepers, each pair will receive an overall score for each event, with the pair receiving the LOWEST average score after ALL events are complete, becoming the Grit n’ Grace © Champion of their respective age group.

All Champion Pairs from each category will receive large Gold trophies and sponsored prize packages from Award Sponsors. All pairs in each category that podium, will receive 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place medallions.

Obstacles that will be performed include: 1-mile run, Farmer Carry Relays, Box Jump/Burpee Combo, Car-Pull, Tire Stacking and Unstacking.

event #1

one Mile Run

DESCRIPTION:

Both partners will begin the 1 mile run at same time, alongside other participants of the same age category. Whistle will blow to indicate start of the 1-mile race time. 1-mile (1.6km) course will be clearly marked. Individual race time will be stopped once participant crosses the finish line. Both partners are NOT required to run as a pair or to finish together.

Total score will be based upon the TOTAL time of BOTH teammates. Marked course and distance will be consistent for all athletes.

PENALTIES:

Participant will be disqualified if athlete leaves marked course.

event #2

car pull

DESCRIPTION:

Both partners will begin standing approx. 10 meters apart. Each partner will stand in a marked area (Approx. 4-foot x 6 foot).

A 30-foot (9m) rope will be attached to BOTH ends of a motor vehicle (FRONT and BACK). The FRONT rope will be stretched into the hands of Partner 1, the BACK rope, stretched into the hands of Partner 2. Motor vehicle weight/size will be altered dependent on given age group (this will range from Golf Carts to RVR’s to ½ tonne trucks). All participants of a single age group will be pulling consistent weight/sizes of vehicles.

Partner 1 will be responsible for pulling vehicle 8 meters towards themselves without stepping outside of designated area. Once Partner 1 has the vehicle tire closest to them pass the designated line, referee will signal for Partner 2 to begin pulling vehicle 8 meters towards themselves, again, without stepping outside designated area, until the tire closest to them crosses painted line.

An 8-meter pull in one direction will be counted by referee as ONE rep. Meter markers will be posted and clearly marked, and judges will be responsible for counting reps.

Referees will be placed inside neutral vehicles and at BOTH ends of obstacle (3 judges/pair).

The total score for the event is based on the TIME it takes for the team to complete 6 total reps (3 reps each). Time will stop once the tire of the 6th rep crosses the designated line

PENALTIES:

1 REP (8 meters total) will be removed from total score if:

  • Athletes complete foot steps outside the designated area

event #3

box jump burpee

DESCRIPTION:

Partner 1 and Partner 2 begin standing facing box-jump apparatus. When time begins, Partner 1 will complete one bodyweight burpee, followed by one box jump. Once Partner 1 completes BOTH their burpee and box jump and their feet touch the ground, Partner 2 then begins their burpee, followed by their box jump. Partner 1’s feet must touch the GROUND before Partner 2’s chest touches the ground.

Each partner will complete one burpee followed by one box jump before the next athlete begins.

Box height will be altered dependent on the age category competing. All Masters, Juniors and Mini Athlete’s will complete this exercise on a 16’’ box. All Open athletes will complete this exercise on a 20’’ box.

Partner 1 and Partner 2 MUST rotate with each rep. ONE partner may NOT complete back-to-back reps. As much rest as needed can be taken until all reps are complete.

*Stepping DOWN from a box jump and stepping OUT on a burpee IS permitted in ALL classes!

Your total score for this event is based on the time it takes the pair to complete 30 repetitions total (15 reps/teammate). Time will stop when the final box-jump is complete, and the athlete’s feet touches the ground.

ONE burpee AND ONE box jump will be counted as ONE rep.

PENALTIES:

1 REP will be removed from total score if:
Chest does not touch floor during bodyweight burpee
BOTH feet to do not touch box simultaneously during box jump
Heels drop below the level of the box during box jump
Partner touches chest to floor PRIOR to other Partner completing box jump (feet on ground).

    event #4

    Farmer Carry Relay

    DESCRIPTION:

Both Partners will begin at one end of a marked course, 12 meters in length.

Partner 1 will lift 2 weighted jugs and shuttle them 12 meters towards a marked area. Jugs must BOTH be placed INSIDE the marked area, re-picked up by the athlete, and then shuttled 12m back towards start line, and again placed into marked area. Partner 2 will then pick up weighted jugs and will carry them on the same course.

The weights of the jugs will be adjusted for all Mini athletes.

24 meters of total shuttling distance is representative of ONE complete rep (12m in ONE direction, 12m in OTHER direction is counted as ONE rep).

Total score will be based upon the TIME it takes teammates to successfully complete 10 reps (5 reps per partner). It is mandatory that teammates alternate each rep, 5 reps each.

    PENALTIES:

A 2 SECOND deduction will be added to your total score if:
The jug is placed COMPLETLEY outside of marked areas.
Athlete touches the jugs before referee says START.

        event #5

        Tire stack & UnStack

        DESCRIPTION:

Both Partners will begin at ONE end of an 8-meter course.

At the same end as both athletes, SIX car tires of similar weights/sizes will be placed into 2 stacks of three. At the other end, a large pole will be locked into place.

Pole heights and tire weights will be altered for each age category.

6 ft. pole will be used for OPEN and MASTERS athletes
4.5 ft. pole will be used for all MINI and JUNIOR athletes

Upon START, Partner 1 will grab ONE of the six tires, and shuttle it 8 meters to the pole, placing the tire onto the pole, and allowing it to fall to the bottom. It is the TEAMS responsibility to shuttle and STACK ALL 6 tires from the start ONTO the pole, one at a time, alternating with each rep. Each time an athlete grabs a tire, they must completely cross the start line, before their partner leaves with the next tire.

Once the team has successfully STACKED all 6 tires onto the pole (3 tires/partner), they will then be responsible for UN-STACKING all six tires OFF the pole and returning them to their starting position (2 stacks of 3 tires).

Each tire must be stacked and unstacked individually, ONE at a time, and returned to the starting position. Each partner must alternate with each rep.

The total score is based on the TIME it takes the team to STACK and UN-STACK all 6 tires.

        PENALTIES:

2 SECOND deduction will be given if:
Partner does not completely cross START line when retrieving tires
Partner 2 leaves START line before Partner 1 crosses START line
